Speed-read — Week 2
This week is about grief after late ADHD diagnosis.
After recognition, many adults begin asking what might have been different if ADHD had been recognised earlier.
Recognise: Notice where grief is showing up.
Acknowledge: Make space for what the diagnosis has cost without calling it self-pity.
Understand: Separate grief from self-blame by updating old stories with better information.
Move Forward: Honour one area of grief and name one support you wish you had received.
Your milestone: name one area of grief and one form of support you wish you had received.
Grief after late diagnosis can be obvious or quiet. It may show up around school, work, relationships, money, family, health, identity or time.
You may feel sadness, anger, or nothing at first. Start by naming the area, not solving it.
Workbook prompt
What area of life feels most tender when you think about being diagnosed later?
Take your time. There is no right answer here.
Some experiences cost more than you realised at the time. The cost may have been energy, confidence, opportunity, trust, rest or self-belief.
Acknowledging the cost is not the same as blaming everyone forever. It is making the story more truthful.
Workbook prompt
What did you need then that you did not receive?
Grief asks, "What mattered here?" Self-blame says, "This was all my fault."
When an old story appears, ask: What did I know then? What did I not know? What support was missing? What would I say to someone else in the same situation?
Workbook prompt
What old self-blaming thought could be updated with better information?
You do not need to rush grief. You also do not need to build a permanent home inside it.
This week, choose one small act of acknowledgement. Write a sentence. Name a loss. Speak kindly to a younger version of yourself. Make one practical change now.
Workbook prompt
What is one small way to honour the grief without living inside it?
